This is my friend Claude, who came from Haiti in the 1970s under the sponsorship of my parents, who met him while they were working on a medical mission in Haiti. Claude lived with us for years while going to high school, applying to college, and beginning his medical career. I’ve always thought of him as a member of our extended family. I don’t know where his relatives are now, but I’m sure that at least some of them were in Port-au-Prince.
