I should probably update you on the progress of the second book in the series.
My editor has sent back the first 200 pages with his comments written in. It’s sitting on my desk…I have to nerve myself to tackle it this week…
I’m working on the maps for the middle section of the book and marvelling over the number of ways I have managed to spell place names. Doing the maps always forces me to find my many, many variant spellings and make them consistent.

What do you think? I like it, myself, but I’m curious as to whether or not you can identify the subject of the painting.

I really like the cover a lot. That’s a nice blue / red / cream combo.
I’m guessing Charlemagne, but I don’t really know for sure. And considering the subtitle has “Constantine” in it, that’s what I thought it would be at first. Book 1′s cover is Milvian Bridge, though, right? So having two Constantine covers might be overkill.
I like the cover but I’d have to guess on the subject. Constantine? Isn’t that what we’re supposed to read the book to discover?
Charlemagne was my first guess too, but… it’s just a guess. I like the cover– very eye-catching.

My first guess is Charlemagne, but Madelaine wonders if it might be Alfred the Great. I like the cover a LOT.

I’m going with Charlemagne as well, but I’d also like to point out that his name, is in fact, Karl der Grosse

He makes so much sense for the period of time your book covers, from art to religion to rule; I just wonder if a later cover will favor the Far East or sport a less Western cover.
I like the cover, it goes nicely with volume one, the design is similar so one knows it is in the same series. The blue in the cover contrasts enough with the black of Vol. 1 so that it gives Vol. 2 a life of its own.
As for the mystery man… I am not familiar with the painting, so my first thought is Charlemange as well. It’s hard to see in the picture some of the details, so it could be Pope Urban II as he orders the First Crusade.
Keep up the great work, Susan, I can’t wait to read the next volume!
I guess Charlemagne too. I like the cover. And SOTW works! As I sat here in my cold-induced fog, trying to think of Charlemagne’s name, I asked my daughter, “What’s the name of that French king that united France?” And she replied, “Charles the Hammer?”

The cover looks great. I like the painting, but, alas, I cannot identify the subject.
I like it, and I have no idea who is in the painting. I like the consistency with the cover of the Ancient World.
It seems like everyone has Charlemagne on the brain. Now I’m curious to go find that painting somewhere and see who it is! Are you going to reveal your secret?

I, too, like the cover. It does go nicely with the first book(which I have, by the way, although I have not read it yet.) I don’t know who is in the picture, it looks like it could be a Pope.
The cover is great! The colors work well together. My first thought was Charlemagne. I’d ask my 12 year old; he’s probably know but he’s asleep. Anyhow, I can’t wait to dive into this one when it comes outl By the way we ate at the Blue Talon when we were on vacation. The food was great!
I love the cover. I think the colours are wonderful and it’s similar enough to the cover of Ancient World to tie them together as a series. Not positive about the painting. First thought was Charlemagne but I’m not positive. I’d ask my 18 year old but he’s at university on the other side of town, sleeping on the floor so he can be at class this morning. The transit strike in this city has got to stop!

I like it- but I might have been expecting a black background (like the Ancients) with a blueish/green strip like Vol 2 of SOTW. And then Vol3 would be olive green and vol. four reddish/purple like SOTW vol 4. I do like it though.
I like the cover. It probably doesn’t matter much but it coordinates well with the first book an I would place them together on a shelf. So, for decorative reasons… Looks great!
So, being the nerd I am, I’m wondering about the subtitle. What position do you take on whether Constantine actually converted?
As I was looking through my bookshelf the other day, I realized that this cover is very similar to Jeff Shaara’s “The Glorious Cause.” Very revolutionary
