Much to my surprise, the History of the Ancient World now seems to be shipping from online sites, four weeks ahead of the publication date. You can buy it from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Books A Million.

I just checked the status of my preorder on amazon and it still indicates a Mar 28th delivery date, but now I am hopeful that it will ship sooner. I’ll bet they don’t do that with Harry Potter 7!

I was excited to pick up your book this weekend at Barnes and Noble (my children and I-I homeschool-have so thoroughly loved your History of the World series for kids). Your writing style makes one WANT to read history as it truly is- a story- and a good one!
I recently discovered your blog and am catching up with the postings. So sorry to read your December post about the bad hospital experience. I am a registered nurse- I have practiced in critical care and currently teach nursing students. I want to say that the attitudes many people encounter are the symptoms of a sick system, and that most people who become nurses or physicians genuinely want to help- somehow they seem to lose this focus because of an overburdened system that does not seem to care for the individual patient holistically (like so many public systems in our society). I currently teach my students to never lose their empathy and to switch gears when that begins to happen. I am working on my graduate degree and hope to write a book for health care professionals on this very topic in the future.

Picked it up today and yes I was surprised to see it on the shelf at B&N
Ordered mine from Amazon today… along with “Finally Feminist”. I cracked a rib coughing (how lame is that?), so I have lots of time in the evenings to read now that I am a whimpering mass desperately clinging to my ice pack by the end of the day.
My Amazon copy is in the mail to me today, too …along with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Plus I have my local library ordering a copy.
I can’t wait to get the book. My husband just joined the military and we are waiting for them (the government) to decide to pay us. I guess I won’t hold my breath.
My sister, who is against me homeschooling, stayed with me for about a week when my husband left.
She saw us “do school.” I was reading from The Story of the World Volume:1. She silently picked up the book and started to read as the children began their notebook pages. She didn’t put it down until bed time. We are talking about a twentyfive year old woman. She was so impressed and learned quite a lot. I’m sure she isn’t on my side about homeschooling yet, but you may have a new fan.
I am getting this for her birthday in April, I know she’ll love it.
I got my copy in today’s mail. It is beautiful! I would expect nothing less from SWB. My husband managed to wrestle it from my fingers for a few minutes and declared his approval. Very high praise, indeed. I now have to commit to sharing it with him.

Just walked in the door to find a box from Amazon.com in my office. I was delighted to find a copy of the book that I had pre-ordered way back in April of 2006.
The History of the Ancient World by Susan Wise Bauer was just released by Norton. I’ve received my copy before their scheduled availability in stores and I payed alot less for it. The cover lists the selling price as $29.95 but I only payed $18.87 with free shipping. Ok, so I’m bragging a bit!
I’ve been a long-time fan of Susan. In fact, her blog is posted on one of my feeds. I can relate very much to her. We’re both mothers of four children- three boys and a girl- we both homeschool and work parttime and usually are much too busy for our own good!
She’s doing now what I desire to be doing in the future; teaching and writing. My day will come, but in the meantime, I’ll be happy just to get my new book signed by the demigoddess, herself!

My copy arrived the evening of March 1st. Friday morning I opened it and showed it to my 11 yo ds. He spent the rest of the morning curled up on the couch reading the first 14 chapters. He finally came downstairs to tell me about the Harrapan civilization of ancient India, and how they are not like the Borg. 🙂 Way to go!

Oh – my kids think your upside-down maps of Egypt are clever. I’d have to agree that the focused lens through which you are launching into the history matches nicely. Finally! Someone who is willing to offer up the notion that what seems concrete isn’t as solid or relevant as we might think it is. Perhaps the fantastic is actually more useful in the long run. Bravo!
The book is truly amazing. Very easy to read yet very informative, which in my recent history reading experiences is rare. I appreciate the effort put into it.
Woo hoo! Got my copy this week! Opened the box, admired the beautiful cover, smelled it so I’d begin to immediately FEEL smarter…then headed straight for the bathtub, hung my “Do Not Disturb” sign, added bubbles, climbed in and began my time travel. Thank you for this amazing book! I love it already! 🙂
